One of my latest crochet addictions (the one that has since been taken over by flower scrubbies… but that’s for another post) has been making these simple, round scrubbies.

A couple of people at Ravelry asked for a pattern, so here it is:

*edit 12-08-09* This pattern is the first pattern I wrote, and it shows.. lol. I’m working on a new version, but until it is finished, I’ve posted more images that I hope will help with some confusion about the cluster stitch.

A Dozen Snazzy Doo-Dads for Your Kitchen

I’ve received many questions about this pattern book/pamphlet since I posted the Pointed Petal Coasters project on Ravelry. Unfortunately, it’s out of print. I found my copy on Ebay, but for those who have not had luck finding one there, I’m posting all of the info I could find that might be of use in hunting it down.

Chapstick / Lip Balm Holders

Ok here goes..

Supplies-

worsted weight cotton, chapstick, F hook, yarn needle, scissors

optional- shank back button, small piece of dental floss (you’ll see later), metal split ring, lanyard clip

round 1- chain 2, make 5 sc in first chain, sl at end of round

round two- 2 sc in each st around, sl at end of round

round three- sc in back loop only around, do not join at end of round

round 4 and up- sc in each sc around, do not join at end of rounds, just keep going in a spiral

If you want a button closure, it’s much easier to crochet it into the body of the holder than to sew it on later. I add one in the middle of the 10th or 11th row, depending on the size of the button.

Wrap length of dental floss around the yarn, poke the ends through the hole and pull the yarn through.

Insert the hook in the loop and tighten the yarn.

Pull loop through the loop on your hook. (make a chain st)

Skip next sc then continue around.

Continue to sc around until the body length is long enough for the tube of chapstick. If you didn’t add a button, you can stop here. Make a small chain loop for a hook then finish off. If you did add a button, stop about halfway to the button then turn and sc back across 5 stitches.

Keep going back and forth until this flap reaches the top of the button.

Chain 5 then attach with sl. Weave in end. Add lanyard hook or key ring.

Tada! Easy Peasy.
